Why This Personal Trainer Los Angeles Says To Avoid Milk
By personal trainer los angeles Leon Lavigne
I may come under fire from the dairy board for this one, but the
cold fact is that you are being lied to everyday about the “health
benefits”of drinking milk.
Flat out Lie #1: Milk will help you lose weight.
Yes, if you weigh 300 pounds and you start an exercise program and
drink a glass of milk everyday with it…you may lose weight, and
that’s a big MAY.
Here is why…
What if I told you that you could lose weight by mixing table sugar
and butter together in a bowl and eating that once per day. Wouldn’t
that raise a few red flags with you?
Sure, I’ve helped people lose tons of weight over the years, but the
“butter and sugar” diet might even stretch my credibility… no
Well here is the deal:
The fat that is in milk products is the same fat as butter, and the
sugar (lactose) that it contains is a disaccaride just like table
sugar. So when you go to eat ANY dairy product I want you to think
about yourself being on the “butter and sugar diet” and see just how
well that sits with you the next time you try to put on your favorite
pants.
“But I drink skim milk Leon!”…OK the fat is gone, but the sugar
is still in there.
Flat out Lie #2:
Dairy products give you lots of calcium
Yes, dairy products CONTAIN a lot of calcium, It is another myth
that the human body can actually absorb it.
You see cows milk is made for baby cows, and people’s milk is made
for baby people. When the glass of cows milk you just drank hits
your stomach, it immediately starts to curdle into a GOLF BALL
shaped mass (kind of like a gluey piece of cheese).
This big mass of curdle in your stomach prevents the body when it
tries to absorb the calcium out of it.
Studies have shown that human milk curdles to the size of sand and
goats milk curdles to the size of peas in our stomachs, which you
can probably see how much easier it would be to absorb nutrients from.
*The Scandinavian countries consume the most milk per person in the
world and ALSO have the highest instances of osteoporosis and breast
cancer. Can you see a connection?
…And I just learned about a Harvard study which determined that
men who drank two glasses of milk a day had twice the incidence of
developing advanced prostate cancer.
If you want the best source of calcium, green vegetables are so-so
(I’ll get more into that next time), but you Absolutely NEED to take
your daily vitamins.
It is recommended that you take in between 1000 to 1300 mg in divided
doses every day.
*There are a number of different kinds of calcium, but I recommend
calcium citrate. Supplementing with this will help keep your bones
strong.
…And if you want to make your bones even stronger, resistance
training 3-4 days per week is the way to go!
